Cleveland Public Theatre was recently named a Champion in Action for Commitment to Community Arts by Charter One Bank and WJW FOX 8. CPT received a $25,000 grant along with public relations and volunteer support in recognition of excellence in community arts programming. The Champions in Action program was launched in late 2005 by Charter One and WJW FOX 8 to honor and provide support to the area's unsung community heroes – non-profit organizations working to address the needs of northeast Ohio. CPT was chosen as a Champion in Action in the community arts category for promoting the work of local artists, enriching the lives of at-risk children and youth and providing a voice for people often excluded from participation in the arts. Formerly homeless men and women and adults in transition develop and tour original performances that bring a message of meaning and hope to audience members.
