Compulsion to Move: ZUGZWANG
This eclectic group of movers will share a variety of new dances using metaphor and humor to explore the dynamic contrast between “moving” and “allowing.” Described as “zany” and “endearing” by The Plain Dealer, MorrisonDance will “move” you through the dilemma of ZUGZWANG: The compulsion to move.
Since 1997, MorrisonDance has integrated the art of movement within cross-disciplinary collaborations, continuously challenging the traditional understanding of dance. The small non-profit dance company gets its unique strength from performers trained in a variety of movement arts willing to stretch their abilities through presentations in alternative venues and through experimental presentations combining nature, technology, and other artistic disciplines. MorrisonDance works to create viscerally aesthetic presentations, and has developed unique creative partnerships with organizations such as BrainMaster and NASA, allowing them to explore new marriages between art and science.
MorrisonDance’s project “ZUGZWANG” is supported in part by the residents of Cuyahoga County through a public grant from Cuyahoga Arts & Culture and through an anonymously nominated Rauschenberg SEED grant (NYC).

The Movement Project
All together now…
In their new work, All together now, The Movement Project explores concepts of weight and risk through the use of props and active bodies in space. Suspended, facing the unknown, and propelled through space, dancers investigate an oversized world of “Cat’s Cradle” that challenges the physical limits of the human body. This highly collaborative work features multiple Cleveland artists and their crafts in set design, lighting design, sound composition, videography, photography and dance composition.
The Movement Project, a professional modern dance company located in Cleveland Ohio, was founded in 2009 by sisters and artistic directors Megan Lee Gargano and Rebecca J. Leuszler. TMP’s work has been featured at Cleveland Public Theatre, Hullabaloo/Valerie Mayen, Cellar Door Cleveland, Arts in August, OhioDance Festival at BalletMet, Baldwin Wallace University, Ohio University and Dumbo Dance Festival in NYC. Since 2012, TMP has produced over 10 new works, launched outreach and community action programs throughout the communities of Northeast Ohio and has launched a new professional class series for the development of Cleveland’s dance artists. TMP is dedicated to advancing the art of dance making and promoting and nurturing a work environment devoted to collaboration amongst artists and organizations in Cleveland. Through classes, performances and programming, TMP strives to support the needs of today’s artists and the growing and changing scope of the field.
