Travel behind the curtain with India Nicole Burton and Pandora Robertson, Executive Artistic Director of Ohio City Theatre Project, as they discuss the creative process. India and Pandora, in candid conversation, will dig into the generation of new ideas, charting paths forward, and the culmination of creative work, speaking specifically about the inspiration and themes behind Central Concern (2019), a satirical take on the history of the American real estate profession that used music, humor, and bizarre bouffon theatricality. Audience members will also have the option to participate during the question and answer portion of the discussion.

About India Nicole Burton

India Nicole Burton is an actress, director, playwright, and producer. She is a native of Akron, OH and graduated from The University of Akron in 2011 with a BA in Theatre Arts with an emphasis on performance. Upon graduating, India founded Ma’Sue Productions, an African American theatre company located in Akron. She has directed, produced, and performed in several of Ma’Sue’s plays and acted as co-artistic director until 2015. India has worked with many prominent Akron, Cleveland, New York, Atlanta, and L.A. actors, directors, and playwrights. Some of India’s acting credits include Julius Caesar (Portia), Bootycandy (Actor 1), An Octoroon (Dido), and Orlando (Orlando). India’s directing credits include for colored girls who have considered suicide / when the rainbow is enuf (Heads Up Productions), The Laramie Project (Heads Up Productions), Daybreak’s Children (Ma’Sue Productions), A Happening on Imperial (Ma’Sue Productions), O Patria Mia (Ma’Sue Productions), Little Women (Hathaway Brown Theatre Institute), Fire on the Water (Cleveland Public Theatre, co-directed with Raymond Bobgan), Panther Women: An Army for the Liberation (working title) (in development at Cleveland Public Theatre), and three short plays produced at Cleveland Public Theatre’s Station Hope: What we could have beenMaya: The Poet, and We Call you George. India’s assistant directing credits include the 2014 production of The Color Purple at Karamu House, brownsville song (b-side for tray) at Dobama Theatre, and Cleveland Public Theatre’s Barbecue and Good at Heart, featured in BorderLight International Theatre + Fringe Festival. India is a board member for New World Performance Lab and is in her second year as the NNPN Producer in Residence at Cleveland Public Theatre.


ABOUT PANDORA ROBERTSON

Pandora Robertson is Executive Artistic Director at Ohio City Theatre Project (OCTP). Credits include the OCTP/Cleveland Public Theatre (CPT) 2019 co-production Central Concern (director/creator), the 2016 OCTP/Cleveland Public Theatre (CPT) co-production of Incendiaries (director/creator), OCTP’s Free Radical and The Night Sketchbook (director/creator), the co-production of Code Breakers (director/creator) with Theater Ninjas’ (now Maelstrom Collaborative Arts) May 2016 Broken Codes, Mamaí Theatre Company’s production of Woman and Scarecrow (director) (Cleveland Critic Circle Award “Superior Achievement” for direction and play), and Theater Ninjas’ (now Maelstrom Collaborative Arts) production of Melissa James Gibson’s [sic] (director). She was a CPT 2011/2012 Joan Yellen Horvitz Director Fellow. Pandora has worked extensively in Northeast Ohio as a director, actor, choreographer, and dancer, with Great Lakes Theater, Dobama Theatre, Porthouse Theatre, convergence-continuum, and Ensemble Theatre. She danced for seven years with Ohio Ballet. Pandora is a 2018 recipient of an Ohio Arts Council Individual Excellence Award for playwriting and a 2016 Community Partnership for Arts and Culture Creative Workforce.
