Really thoughtful words about "The Body Play." We can say from experience that the play absolutely holds up to repeat viewings! Thank you, Mikaela Ray.TLDR: Go. See. The. Body. Play. At. Cleveland Public Theatre•••••This thought-provoking, masterfully crafted, incredibly poignant piece of art was so overwhelmingly brilliant, that I have already decided to see it again to digest more of it. I laughed, I cried, I felt deeply, I was reminded to breathe, and I noticed things about my body and mind that I hadn’t before.Rachel Gold and Andrea de la Fuente are both powerhouses of incredible talent and strength, and I am fortunate enough to call them both friends of mine. But to see them act as one, was truly a gift. I knew I was going to experience something special seeing them perform together. What I did not realize was the magnitude of the impression it was going to have upon me. At several points during the performance, I actually forgot they were two entirely different people, who, until now, have existed separately in my brain. And I believe that is a testament to the work and care that was put into this piece. Then, we have Dayshawnda Ash, Erin Moran, and Kelly Dunn, who took the show to an entirely new level. Continuously transforming into different characters, all of which felt fully fleshed out (a hard thing to accomplish with the excerpt quality of the show), brought a reality to the piece, necessary for the audience to remain grounded in the show’s exploration of the complexities and complications of the medical world. And let’s not forget the astounding playwright, Madison Wetzell, and the equally-notable director, Paige Conway. The marriage of words and action was at the heart of this piece. It had to be with one of the show’s central themes being the warring of body and mind. And I don’t mean to say that they always were in harmony. In fact, most of the time, they weren’t. The artists of Y-Haven Theatre Project—our collaboration with Y-Haven (a branch of Greater Cleveland YMCA)—have been working hard on "Roots Through Ruin," a deeply moving ghost story that delves into the heart of human resilience and the journey towards healing. Trapped in an abandoned house, a group of seekers must confront the ghosts of their pasts. As they face their darkest moments, hope flickers on the horizon.
