Teatro Público de Cleveland regresa al escenario con una comedia mágica y salvajemente oscura escrita por el dramaturgo Colombiano Fabio Rubiano Orjuela. LABIO DE LIEBRE es una obra que confronta una historia vergonzosa. Un ex militar, Salvo, ha cometido actos atroces contra miles de familias. Años más tarde, se ve acosado por visitantes sobrenaturales – un grupo de fantasmas mitad animales / mitad humanos de su pasado violento, incluyendo a un muchacho con labio leporino. Los límites entre la víctima y el culpable se desdibujan en esta valiente y conmovedora nueva obra. Interpretada en español con subtítulos en inglés. PREMIERE EN LOS ESTADOS UNIDOS.

Teatro Público de Cleveland returns to the stage in a magical and wildly dark comedy by Colombian playwright Fabio Rubiano Orjuela. LABIO DE LIEBRE (THE LIP OF THE HARE) is a play about facing a shameful history. A former military man, Salvo, has committed atrocious acts against thousands of families. Years later, he is haunted by unearthly visitors – a troupe of half-animal/half-human ghosts from his violent past, including a boy with a cleft lip. The boundaries between victim and perpetrator blur in this courageous and poignant new play. Performed in Spanish with English subtitles. US PREMIERE.

About The Playwright: Fabio Rubiano Orjuela
Fabio Rubiano Orjuela has a degree in Dramatic Art from the Universidad del Valle. He studied for two years at the District School of Theater in Bogotá and six at the Theatrical Research Workshop at Santiago García. Fabio received the National Theatre Direction Award in 2013. His work Sara Says received the prize for best work FGAA 2010-2011. He has written more than 20 plays, four of which have received the National Playwriting Award: Thanks for coming (1996), Every time barking dogs (1997), The penultimate dinner (1999) and The Birth of Schumann (2009). He has been awarded five scholarships for the creation of the Ministry of Culture; four of his works have won co-production awards and two have been written thanks to residencies abroad (Spain and Mexico). Companies from Slovenia, Chile, Mexico, the United States, Peru, Spain and France have produced his works. ABOUT THE DIRECTOR: Dante Fernando Larzabal
Dante Fernando Larzabal is a founding member of Teatro Público de Cleveland and serves on the TPC Advisory Committee. TPC Directing credits: Mi Muñequita (2015), Doña Carmella (Station Hope 2015), Mi Nombre Es (TCG 2015), Uz: El Pueblo (2016) and Los Cabezudos (Ohio City Street Festival & Pandemonium 2016). TPC stage credits: Cuando Cierras Your Eyes (2013), Dreams of Estrella del Norte (Station Hope 2014), Vuelo del Ocean (Pandemonium 2014), A Recipe Para La Vida (2014), Yo Sueño of Home (Pandemonium 2015), ¿Dónde Está My Home? (Where is Mi Hogar) (2015) and ¡Celebrando 3 Years! (2016). Dante has theatrical experience as a director, performer, producer and teacher. He worked extensively with Teatro Eslabon and Mutanteatro in Uruguay. Dante was born in Las Piedras, Uruguay and has lived in Cleveland for the past 12 years.

However, I always wished, ‘Could there be some Spanish theatre where I could show my craft?’ And then I happened to hear about Mi Muñequita 2 years ago, and it was a production all in Spanish. At first I thought it was an outside play that came to town. En el 2013, el Cleveland Public Theatre realizó el lanzamiento del Teatro Público de Cleveland, a un grupo de teatro de latinoamericanos basados en, cuyo trabajo refleja los objetivos, intereses e ideales artísticos de sus miembros. El objetivo de este grupo teatral es compartir la abudante diversidad y perspectivas de la cultura Latina de Cleveland y así cumplir con la mission del CPR: para elevar la conciencia y fomentar la compasión a través del desempeño innovador y programas educativos que cambian la vida. El conjunto de actores y creadores tiene una amplia gama de experiencia, de amateur a artistas con formación profesional. La mayoría de los miembros pueden rastrear la herencia de Puerto Rico, y también hay representación de otros países de origen: México, Uruguay, Guatemala, Perú, Nicaragua y Colombia. El conjunto fue fundado a través de una serie de talleres públicos gratuitos presentado por Teatro Público de Cleveland , en asociación con el Cultural Arts Center Julia de Burgos, de Cleveland, y su fundación fue apoyada por el programa de la Fundación de Cleveland Engaging the Future .
In 2013, Cleveland Public Theatre launched Teatro Público de Cleveland, a Cleveland-based Latin American theatre ensemble, whose work reflects the artistic goals, interests and ideals of its members. The purpose of this theatre ensemble is to share the rich diversity and perspectives of the Latino Cleveland culture towards fulfilling CPT’s core mission: to raise consciousness and nurture compassion through groundbreaking performance and life-changing educational programs. The ensemble of actors and creators has a broad range of experience, from amateur to professionally trained artists. A majority of members can trace heritage to Puerto Rico, and there is representation from other countries of origin: Mexico, Uruguay, Guatemala, Peru, Nicaragua and Colombia. The ensemble was founded through a series of free public workshops presented by Cleveland Public Theatre, in partnership with Cleveland’s Julia de Burgos Cultural Arts Center, and its founding was supported by the Cleveland Foundation’s Engaging the Future program.
