Description of Position
The New Play Associate is an early career position that works in the artistic and production departments. This position is a year-round, salaried, staff position well over 40 hours a week. Salary range is $28,000-32,000, commensurate with experience. Some benefits included.
The New Play Associate provides production, artistic, managerial and operational support to: CPT’s four developmental series – Entry Point (a one week festival of new plays), Test Flight (a multi-week workshop series), The Dark Room (a monthly “open-mic” style play reading series) and Catapult (a year-long development program that aims to move projects toward full production); Pandemonium (a massive annual event); Station Hope (a one-day social justice festival); as well as other artistic projects and productions. The New Play Associate also participates artistically in new play development in ways that align with their skillset and interest.
Experience in professional theatre is a must, with a minimum of 1 year of full-time theatre work or 3 years of consistent freelance work or equivalent. Experience in producing plays is important and experiences in new play development and production management would be very helpful. CPT primarily produces theatrical work that is outside-of-the-mainstream, so a past history of such work may also indicate a potentially good fit.
All positions at CPT work across departmental lines and the New Play Associate is involved in nearly all aspects of the theatre.
Artistic staff at CPT are expected to engage in their own artistic work and growth.
The successful candidate will be collaborative, eager to learn and dedicated to working in theatre. Candidate must possess excellent logistics skills and have the ability to create warm, exciting, empowering community experiences for our programs’ participants and families. Because of our track record of success we are particularly interested in candidates who are eager to support current programs and participate in developing new programs.
CPT cares passionately about reflecting our community and pursuing diversity at all levels of the organization. CPT has a demanding working environment with long, intense hours, but we have fun and love what we do. We value hard work, kindness, generosity, passion and grace-under-pressure. For applicants considering relocation to Cleveland: our city is an excellent community to live in, with top-notch arts and culture, a vibrant theatre scene, beautiful public parks, a great lake and VERY affordable housing.
TO APPLY: Interested candidates should email a two-page cover letter, résumé and references to: careers@cptonline.org. Subject header should read: [LAST NAME], New Play Associate.
