Cleveland Public Theatre announces General Auditions for the 2017/2018 Season
Cleveland Public Theatre is holding general auditions for our 2017/2018 season. (Check out our season announcement here.) All Northeast Ohio actors interested in working with CPT are encouraged to audition. CPT has a history of multicultural casting and is committed to representing our community on stage. A casting breakdown for each show is below.
General Auditions
When: Saturday, June 24, 11:00am-8:00pm
There will be additional appointments available on Sunday, June 25, 7:00pm-10:00pm for those actors unavailable to audition on Saturday. NOTE: Some directors for the 2017/2018 season will not be at the Sunday auditions.
Where: Cleveland Public Theatre (6415 Detroit Ave., Cleveland, OH 44102) – James Levin Theatre
Auditions are by appointment only and will be scheduled in five minute increments. Actors should prepare no more than two minutes of material which can include 1-2 brief monologues and/or a short a cappella song. (Please note: auditions will be stopped at 2 minutes.)
AEA contracts will be considered throughout the season.

DanceWorks 2018 is an important part of Cleveland Public Theatre’s 2017-2018 Season. DanceWorks offers Northeast Ohio dance companies and choreographers the opportunity to have world premiere works presented in a series with other local dance companies.
Through a submission process, CPT hopes to select 2-4 dance companies to be part of DanceWorks 2018 in the Gordon Square Theatre. This year CPT is only accepting submissions for groups to perform half of a double bill. Groups that share an evening will share revenue, rehearsal time and technical time.

On Saturday, September 9, 2017, CPT will present its annual fundraising extravaganza and party of the year – PANDEMONIUM ‘17: UNLEASH. Featuring dozens of area theatre, dance, visual and performance artists and with fabulous food and drink, Pandemonium is a benefit like no other and an opportunity for you to be a featured performer.

CPT’s mission is to raise consciousness and nurture compassion through groundbreaking performances and life-changing educational programs. CPT’s programming agenda is to produce work that is outside the mainstream, offering a much broader range of work available to the Cleveland public and expanding the impact and originality of theatre across the country. CPT strives to make work that is excellent, extraordinary and nationally competitive.
Our new play development programs are based on our years of experience, community input and key principles of: focusing on artists; valuing diversity of approach, aesthetics and perspective; and balancing impact with investment.
We envision CPT as a nationally recognized hub for the development of new theatre that is extraordinary, edgy and relevant. We hope to be a model for nurturing local talent in similar sized markets, the most regarded cultivator of new theatre for Cleveland audiences, a laboratory for promising research and investigation and a launcher of nationally significant new plays.

Description of Position
This position is a year-round, salaried, staff position. Salary range is 28,000-32,000 and is based on experience and capacity. The Master Electrician and Carpenter is responsible for working with the Technical Director to implement all technical aspects of productions except costumes.

Description of Position
The Creator/Directors report to the Education Manager. This position is 8-10 week, intensive, full-time staff position, including evenings and weekends. Pay $500 – $1,000/week.
Theatre Creator/Directors are responsible for leading the creation of an original play with the Education Manager, a team of instructors and a cast of Cleveland teens with little theatre experience.
Program Description
STEP – CPT’s Student Theatre Enrichment Program (STEP) is an arts-based job training program that engages Cleveland teens from low-income families in a powerful 8-week intensive that focuses on excellence in performance, play creation, physical theatre, writing, production and set design/construction. Students ages 14-19, with little or no previous performance experience, are eligible for participation, and earn money while learning and practicing valuable job skills such as timeliness, communication, commitment and teamwork. Under the guidance of CPT artists, teens develop an original play and then tour it to public parks throughout the city of Cleveland. Since its beginning in 1995, STEP has received multiple awards and recognitions including those from the City of Cleveland, The President’s Committee on the Arts and the Humanities and the National Endowment for the Arts. STEP is the longest running arts-based, job-training program in Cleveland and has been utilized as an international model for engaging youth. Through STEP, teens see themselves as a positive and inspirational force, and watch as their work has an impact on the larger Cleveland community.
