Cleveland Public Theatre this summer through CPT’s
Student Theatre Enrichment Program STEP

STEP runs June 15 – Aug 9, 4pm-9pm Monday-Friday at Cleveland Public Theatre. Teens will work with professional theatre artist-mentors in the following areas: acting, singing, dance, writing, set construction, marketing, performance creation and touring. Teens receive bus tickets and healthy snacks. The Director’s Pitch: Concept Design and Persuasive Dialogue

You have a great idea, but how do you communicate that idea to designers, actors, artistic directors, or your supporters? The Director’s Pitch will be an interactive discussion about conceptualizing material and effectively expressing your vision.   Topics will include dreaming up your initial concept, selling your vision to your producer, and collaborating with artists to fulfill your vision.   Participants will be given the opportunity to informally “pitch” a real or dream project and receive feedback on the presentation. About the play…

Based on the true story of Johanna Orozco, a Cleveland teen who survived a gunshot wound to the face by her boyfriend in 2007 and whose story sparked a nation-wide movement against teen domestic violence. Johanna’s story is complex and raises critical questions, but it is also a life-affirming story of triumph. Named after The Plain Dealer’s award-winning series “Facing Forward” by journalist Rachel Dissell and produced in conjunction with Teatro Publico de Cleveland. Play is performed mostly in English. Hone your vocal skills this February in Fitzmaurice Voicework® Workshop, led by acclaimed Cleveland theatre artist Holly Holsinger.

Fitzmaurice Voicework® Workshop takes place over two weekends at the end of February in 4 intensive vocal classes that will explore the dynamics between body, breath, voice, the imagination, language, and presence. CPT needs a Technical Director willing to join its hard-working team with the ambitious goals of growing the organization and changing the community. CPT’s season typically includes the production of 10-13 plays and four performance series in three theatres.

Last year on April 26^th, 2014, 150 artists and over 2,000 attendees gathered to celebrate the triumphs of the Underground Railroad and explore contemporary issues of Social Justice at St. John’s Church in Ohio City for the inaugural Station Hope.

We are beginning to plan the second annual Station Hope event, a one night festival of entertainment and art that commemorates St. John’s Church and the Underground Railroad and connects this powerful history with today, and CPT would like to invite you to be involved. Dear Northeast Ohio artists,

CPT is planning the 2015-2016 Season, and once again we are reaching out to you for great ideas.

CPT is focused on new work that is surprising, unexpected and somehow outside the realm of conventional theatre.

CPT is looking for proposals from Northeast Ohio artists for complete projects. Proposals may be for world premieres, second or third US productions, radical re-envisionings of classic plays or other projects. The show could be your own show or a script you would like to work on

Based on the success of past co-productions and our Big Box series, we are also interested in creating opportunities for artists and groups that would like to retain greater ownership of projects and who can share risk with CPT.

Due to unexpected Visa issues, CPT’s upcoming presentation of The Visual Theatre of Emanuella Amichai’s production The Neighbor’s Grief is Greener must be postponed. We are extremely disappointed by the situation and regret any disappointment or inconvenience this may cause to our audience and media colleagues.

Along with our partners at the Jewish Federation of Cleveland, CPT is working to seek out an alternative date for this production, with hopes that we may present this work at a later point in our 14/15 season. Our partners at the JFC, along with Emanuella Amichai and her company of artists, are hopeful that this can happen and, despite this unexpected turn, we continue to feel strongly about the artistic importance of the work and the potential impact the performance will have on Cleveland audiences.
