Suor Angelica / Gianni Schicchi by Giacomo Puccini
Friday April 19 at 7:30pm & Sunday April 21 at 3:00pm
Suor Angelica and Gianni Schicchi are part of the larger work, “Il Trittico” and balance the tearful sentimentality of Suor Angelica and the satirical wit of Gianni Schicchi.
Suor Angelica is the emotional tale of Sister Angelica, a member of a Convent, who was placed there seven years ago by her family. When her Aunt arrives for a visit, she hears of the loss of her son, now in heaven. Her sadness leads to an amazing outcome.
In Gianni Schicchi, the head of a powerful house has died and the family has arrived to learn of the contents of the will. As they feared, the family fortune is left to the monastery. But those present are determined to change the will by having Gianni Schicchi act as the “living” head of the household and have the will rewritten, which leads to the comical finale.
The operas will feature Northeast Ohio singers and orchestra members and will offer an opportunity for anyone that has seldom attended an opera to enjoy this presentation in their “own backyard.”
Tickets are $25
