Test Flight Part 2 – Week 2: Grandeza

Presented by Teatro Público de Cleveland
Produced by Alejandro Martinez
Written & directed by Ernesto Luna Camargo

May 29, 2025 - May 31, 2025

7pm, Thu/Fri/Sat, James Levin Theatre

Grandeza is a two-act play that delves into the lives of two Latino families, navigating the complexities of family, sexuality, and tradition. At its heart, the play explores the internal and external conflicts faced by individuals as they confront long-held beliefs and values within the Latine community.

The story centers on Martin, a young man who decides to come out of the closet, triggering a ripple effect that reveals the hidden struggles and unspoken truths within his family and community. As Martin embarks on his journey toward acceptance, he discovers that the world around him is itself a closet—rooted deeply in cultural traditions and expectations that often stifle individuality. Through the metaphor of a grand, wise tree, the characters learn to shed old leaves and branches, symbolizing the outdated norms that need to be re-evaluated for new growth and perspectives to flourish.

In Spanish with English supertitles.

The James Levin Theatre is ADA-compliant featuring a patron elevator and an all-gender, wheelchair-accessible restroom.
