What really happened between Edouard Manet and his muse, the artist Berthe Morisot? He made more than a dozen portraits of her over a six-year period, then she married his brother and Manet never painted her again. The Doppelgänger explores love from fantastic to romantic to real, through the lens of Manet’s and Morisot’s artworks.
Prior to becoming a playwright/composer, Deborah Magid’s career encompassed most other areas of theatrical experience: she has sung and acted on Broadway, with The Santa Fe Opera, and in venues worldwide; her direction credits span new works, musicals, operas, and comedies; and her Sommersault Company has produced mostly chamber operas and musicals. Magid’s chamber opera, Costumbrismo, or Khandihba Wars, premiered in CPT’s Big [BOX] in 2008, and she was named to the Cleveland Play House Playwrights’ Unit that September. Her play The Wedding Night won the 2009 “6 Women Playwriting Festival” in Colorado and was also produced at Santa Fe Playhouse, and her pop musical Being Earnest was read at Dramatists’ Guild in New York and workshopped at the Alma Theatre, Cain Park as part of the 2009 Playwrights Weekend.
