Week #6 (May 21 – 24): Open Window Dance Company
Cleveland Public Theatre is proud to present Coloring Pages, a weekend of dance performances from Open Window Dance Company as part of DanceWorks 09!
Open Window Dance Company makes its regional debut in the final weekend of DanceWorks with a premiere performance of Coloring Pages along with additional repertory works. Unique to OWDC’s approach to painting the stage with dance are the inspirations drawn from Asian movement forms. With each new work the company presents lively movement and curious characters in rich, picture book environments.
In Coloring Pages, director Tammy Metz Starr allows the concept of saturation to guide her visual and visceral choices. She presents four distinct solo characters in four vivid seasonal surroundings developed in collaboration with sculptor Greg Mueller, visual artist Alexa Rittichier, composer David Harnish, playwright Sean T.C. O’Malley and the dancers. Each character stops, sits, and absorbs a condensed moment along the life-cycle in playful, sometimes whimsical, often poignant reflection.
Open Window Dance Company is driven by a love of the moving body and the collaborative creative process. Don’t miss your chance to see this fledgling company in DanceWorks 09!
Don’t miss a weekend of DanceWorks 09 at Cleveland Public Theatre! Onstage in the Gordon Square Theatre from April 16 – May 24.
