Cleveland Public Theatre announces Auditions for
Johanna: Facing Forward

Inspired by the writings of Johanna Orozco and the investigative journalism of Rachel Dissell
About the play…
Based on the true story of Johanna Orozco, a Cleveland teen who survived a gunshot wound to the face by her boyfriend in 2007 and whose story sparked a nation-wide movement against teen domestic violence. Johanna’s story is complex and raises critical questions, but it is also a life-affirming story of triumph. Named after The Plain Dealer’s award-winning series “Facing Forward” by journalist Rachel Dissell and produced in conjunction with Teatro Publico de Cleveland. Play is performed mostly in English. World Premiere.

WOSBELY OROZCO- (Male, 50’s-60’s Latino) Johanna’s grandfather, extremely humble, sensitive, wears heart on his sleeve (plays various other characters)
JUAN RUIZ- (Male, 20’s, Latino or mixed ethnicity) a shadow figure; Johanna’s abusive boyfriend and assailant; charming, brooding, dangerously insecure (plays various other characters)
GUS CHAN- (Male, 30’s, Asian or mixed ethnicity) Rachel’s colleague and a photographer for the Cleveland Plain- Dealer (plays various other characters)
RACHEL DISSELL- (Female, mid 30’s, White or mixed ethnicity) Investigative journalist for the Cleveland Plain-Dealer, inquisitive, tireless (plays various other characters)

About the process…
Rehearsals for this production will begin around Monday, April 13th, 2015.
Performances will be in the Gordon Square Theatre on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Mondays at 7:30pm May 28th – June 13th. There will be eleven performances.
Auditions…
Saturday, 3/14: 1:00pm, 2:00pm, 3:00pm, 4:00pm
Sunday, 3/15: 3:00pm, 4:00pm, 5:00pn, 6:00pm
Actors may be asked to stay later than their scheduled audition time. Please share your conflicts for these dates when scheduling your audition.
Auditions are by appointment only and will be conducted in groups. Each audition appointment is one hour long and you must be prepared to stay for the full hour.
You will be asked to present a prepared 1 minute monologue. This can be from a play, a poem, a song, a speech, etc. It is important that the monologue is fully memorized.
Once your appointment has been made, we will send you parts of the play that you can review before your audition to help you prepare.
