Cleveland Public Theatre (CPT) is Hiring Teaching Artists

CPT is seeking energetic, flexible, and collaborative interdisciplinary Teaching Artists to join our core, who are dedicated to working with youth to create art focused on furthering racial and economic justice with Cleveland Act Now (formerly Brick City Theatre). Theatre experience is a plus, but not required.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

CLEVELAND ACT NOW (CAN) is a free, year-round theatre arts program for young artists ages 5-14. Under the guidance of CPT Teaching Artists, children and family learn how to create and perform their own plays, dance, poetry, music, and visual art. These original performances are crafted and presented annually at CMHA and Cleveland community centers as well as arts festivals throughout Cleveland.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Teaching Artists are responsible for implementing performing arts programming: teaching and creating curriculum, organizing field trips, producing community celebrations, and various administrative tasks.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Experience in a performing arts discipline (dance, singing, acting, creative writing, etc.)
  • Experience teaching/mentoring children
  • Ability to work independently and in team settings
  • Openness to learning new techniques in the creation of original performance material
  • Must have reliable means of transportation

CONSIDERATIONS

46 week contract
September 16, 2019 – July 31, 2020

School Year: 37 weeks

  • M-F from approximately 1:30p – 6:30p
  • includes office time, weekly teacher training meetings, and onsite teaching
  • Weekly hours will fluctuate with the average being approximately 25 hours per week

Summer: 9 weeks

  • M-Th from approximately 10a – 4p; Fridays from approximately 10a – 2p
  • includes office time, weekly teacher training meetings, and onsite teaching
  • Weekly hours will fluctuate with the average being approximately 30 hours per week

COMPENSATION

$18,400 total contract
